What is Les Miserables show about?

Les Miserables, less formally known as ‘Les Mis‘ set in the year 1815 during the French Revolution is a sung-through musical adapted from French poet and novelist Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel. It’s the story of French peasant Jean Valjean and his desire for redemption after serving 19 years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his sisters starving child. Breaking his parole Jean Valjean is on the run starting a new life as Bishop he is chased down by Javert. On the way through this epic story Jean Valjean and many other charters are swept through the French Revolution period, where a small group of revolutionaries try to take on the French government, trying to overthrow them at a street barricade.
